WEST HILLS 53, SAN PASQUAL 45 – The Wolf Pack improved to 2-0 by knocking off San Pasqual on Day 2 at the Del Lago Tournament on Tuesday night.
West Hills will face Division III foe Pacific Ridge in the tournament semifinals on Thursday.
“We are going to be a big underdog in the Grossmont Hills,” West Hills head coach Tim Barry said. “Those teams have too many returnees and a lot of experience. But that’s why we play the games. It’s my job to continue growing these young kids.”
The “2 Jakes” – Jake Partington and Jake Kelly – combined for 24 points for West Hills.
“(Teammate Max) Conaway and I haven’t been able to practice with the team but it’s been a quick transition,” said Partington, who played on the Wolf Pack’s stellar football squad in the fall. “But I thought we played a lot better than I thought we would. I think the winning aspects of our football season
Unlike the season-opening win in which the Wolf Pack made no three-point field goals, they connected six times from deep on Tuesday.
Kelly had a three-pointer in the first quarter, then West Hills made a trio of threes in the second quarter.
Zeid Salem scored five of his nine points in the second quarter, including a trey.
PACIFIC RIDGE 66, LIBERTY CHARTER 23 – The Lions dropped their second game at the Del Lago event.
The Firebirds were able to get 12 players registering contributions in the decisive win.
Senior Brady Burman scored 16 for the Firebirds.
