DEL CERRO – A four-run outburst fueled by a home run by Devyn Mack in the first innings propelled the Valhalla Norsemen  to a 7-4 non-league victory over the Patrick Henry Patriots on Saturday (Apr. 1).

Valhalla (5-6-1 overall) would get on the board first thanks to Mckayla Fish who drove in a run followed by Mack’s big three-run bomb to center field to make it 4-0.

They would add to their lead in the second inning when Cadyn Ruffer drove in a run to make it 5-0.

Moving to the bottom of the third inning the Patriots (3-6-1) would manage to push across a run on an error by the Norsemen that allowed Jenna Mallari to plate which made it 5-1.

Zoe Rutherford’s two-run double in the fourth would pull Henry within 5-3 and later in the sixth inning thanks to a fielder’s choice they would cut the deficit even further to a one-run lead of 5-4.

However, Valhalla would push across a pair of insurance runs in the top of the seventh to make it 7-4

Mack besides the home run would pick up the victory as she tossed four innings giving up three runs on five hits and striking out one, Fish came in and worked a couple of innings giving up a run on two hits and striking out one, and Naomi Villalva garnered the save working an inning giving up one hit.

For the Patriots, Aubrey Purvis despite striking out six would be saddled with the loss going six innings and giving up five runs on seven hits, Rutherford came in for an inning giving up two runs on a one-hit and striking out two.
