City Conference Pats both victorious

TIERRASANTA – A pair of runs were all the support Christian High starting pitcher Ava Barrios needed as she fired a two-hit shutout gem as the Christian Patriots won 2-0 on the road against Canyon Hills in City Eastern League play on Tuesday (Apr.25).

Allyson Moody’s RBI single scoring Lucy Sherburne in the fourth inning would give Christian (8-6-1, 2-2 CEL) a 1-0 lead which they would extend later in the inning when Ashley Wood roped a double to center field bringing in Moody to make it 2-0.

Both Kaitlyn Moody and Wood would lead the Patriots at the plate, as each had multiple hits in the game. Moody would go 2-for-3 and Wood went 2-for-3 with the RBI.

Christian would outhit the Canyon Hills Rattlers (14-6-1, 2-2 CEL) 8-2 on the day.

Moody, Sherburne, Keelayana Carrizosa, and Peyton Grosset would have the other hits in the game for the Patriots.

Barrios took the win, striking out eight Rattlers on the day.

Natalye Debus took the loss for Canyon Hills, as she allowed two runs on eight hits over seven innings and struck out six on the day.

 

Patrick Henry 7, Scripps Ranch 3

DEL CERRO – Six runs over the final four innings allowed the Patrick Henry Patriots to come away with the home victory over the Scripps Ranch Falcons, 7-3, on Tuesday (Apr.25) in City Western League action.

Zoe Rutherford started things off for Patrick Henry (11-9-1, 4-1 WL) by driving in Jenna Mallari in the bottom of the first inning to put them up 1-0 early on.

Scripps Ranch (7-10-1, 3-2 WL) would match the run by the Patriots with a run of their own in the top of the second inning to tie the game at 1-all.

Patrick Henry would regain the lead in the third inning when Izzy Ervin scored on a wild pitch to make it 2-1.

They would extend their lead even further courtesy of multiple bases-loaded walks in the fourth inning.

Brooke Taylor would draw the first bases-loaded walk that allowed Maura Evans to trot home; Ervin would draw the second walk with the bases packed to score Lily Glenn; and McKenna Geiger would draw the final walk with the bases full to score Mallari to make it 5-1.

After the Falcons pushed across a run in the fifth to make it 5-2, the Patriots answered back with a run, thanks to an RBI single by Glenn.

Later in the sixth inning, Leila Ludwig would round out the scoring for the Patriots when she came in to score on an error by the catcher to make it 7-3.

Geiger would finish things out and get the win as she allowed three runs on five hits over seven innings while striking out four on the day.

Savannah Cullen took the loss for the Falcons as she allowed seven runs on thirteen hits over six innings while striking out three.
