GREENFIELD DISTRICT — The Eastern League leading Christian Patriots scored over four consecutive innings, slowly pulling away to take down the visiting Mission Bay Buccaneers, 7-3, Wednesday (*Apr. 15) at Christian.

The Patriots (10-7-1 overall,2-0 East) share the league lead with Clairemont. The Chieftains defeated Mira Mesa for the second straight ballgame. Madison was idle.

Casey Coulter led the hosts with two RBI. Included was a solo home run in the fourth, coming immediately after Mission Bay ended the shutout to move to within 3-1.

Riley Snyder also knocked home a pair of runs with a pinch-hit double in the fifth, expanding the advantage to 7-1.

On the mound, Patriots freshman Talon Brown only needed to throw the first four frames for his first career victory. Brown yielded just one run on one hit, striking out five Buccaneers batters.

In addition, Roman Gustin and Benji Molina, both seniors, each belted doubles.

Bonita Vista 10, Santana 1
Bonita Vista 9, Steele Canyon 2

The Sweetwater high school district is currently holding spring break this week, so when Monday’s Bonita Vista ballgame was rained out, Barons head coach Dave Palet — the sports-talk radio guy — boldly announced, like Hall of Fame infielder Ernie Bankls, “Let’s play two!”

Thus, the Barons played a sort of doubleheader with Santana (the make-up game) and Steele Canyon on Wednesday (Apr. 14), winning easily on both occasions.

In Game 1, Bonitsa Vodts broke open a close,3-1 ballgame with seven runs in the seventh inning to topple Santana,10-1.

The bleeding started slowly on a hit batter when the bases were loaded, a fielder’s choice and a ground out. But things became worse.

Adrian Figueroa followed with a 3-run homer to right field. Hid pinvh0runner then came home on a two-run double from Antonio Orozco.

The teams traded runs in the second, with Santana rolling even on an RBI single by sophomore center fielder Greg Ryan. Bonita Vista broke the deadlock on an RBI single by Santiago Olivas in the fifth.

Against Steele Canyon, Bonita Vista elected to utilize a bullpen game,as five hurlers carried a shutout into the sixth inning to subdue the Cougars.

The best of the quintet was senior left-hander Marc Osorio, who fired three frames of 1-hit ball to collect the victory.

The Barons scored three times in the first, building a 7-0 lead by the third. Later down 9-0, Steele Canyon ended the shutout bid on a two-run double by pinch-hitter Morgan Myers in the sixth.

Bonita Vista (14-4 overall) finishes the regular season with a 2-1 mark against Grossmont district schools. The Barons also defeated Patrick Henry, 2-1, but fell at Christian, 4-1.

Patrick Henry 7, University City 2
At University City: Moments after the host Centurions moved back into the ballgame to within 4-2 in the fifth inning, the Patriots responded with a three-run rally in the sixth to cash-out the Cents.

Patrick Henry pitcher Tyson Bobo carried a shutout into the fifth, tossing six innings gain his fifth consecutive victory. Bobo struck out nine UC batters.

The lone mistake was a home run by UniversityCity senior A.J. Curry.

Howeever, the Patriots answered back on an RBI signle by Bobo, a bases-loaded walk to Lukas Oquendo, and a run-scoring single from Jimmy Gunn.

The hit leader for Patrick Henry (12=6 pverall) was Sal Gagliano with two. The ballgame was the Western Leaue opener for both sides, as the Pas share the early eague lead with St. Augustine.

The Stingrays get a chance to re-gain a share of first place on Thursday, hosting defending Pac League champion Escondido Charter.

Foothills Christian put the “W” away early, scoring four times in the ballclub’s first trip to the plate, expanding the margin to 10-0 in the second.

Meanwhile, Josh Howard only needed to pitch four innings, allowing just one hit to garner the victory. Hward struck out three batters.

However, relief pitcher.

Freshan Tylor Burrell struck out six Warriors batters in his three frames to gain the save. All runs allowed were unearned.

On offense, freshman Tylor Burrell belted a bases-loaded triple, while senior Kendall Hawks posted a two-run triple.

The Knights also added four doubles, but none by “Captain” Jack Morgan, who has 13 this season in his pursuit of the CIFSDS record (23).

Morgan’s career total for doubles is 31, thus needing three more to become listed among the Top 20 in the CIFSDS record book.
