2026 EAST COUNTY PREP TRACK AND FIELD
SAN DIEGO CIF GIRLS CHAMPIONSHIPS
By East County Sports
Steele Canyon arrived at the CIF San Diego Section Track and Field Championships with one of the area’s deepest rosters. By the end of Saturday’s competition at Mt. Carmel High School, the Cougars had turned that depth into a section championship.
Powered by a record-setting relay, multiple medal-winning performances and contributions across nearly every discipline, Steele Canyon captured the girls team title with 193 points, finishing well ahead of runner-up Cathedral Catholic (152.5). The championship highlighted a banner day for East County programs, with Helix, Grossmont, Christian, Santana, Patrick Henry and others producing champions, medalists and state qualifiers.
The Cougars’ title run was punctuated by a blazing 45.78 in the girls 4×100-meter relay from Evie Allison, Aniya Scott, Asia Broussard and Livia Allison. The performance established a new CIF San Diego Section record, surpassing a mark that had stood since 1977 and sending Steele Canyon into next week’s CIF State Championships as one of California’s premier relay squads.
While the relay drew much of the attention, Steele Canyon’s team championship was built on depth.
Evie Allison earned runner-up finishes in both hurdle events, taking second in the 100-meter hurdles in 13.93 seconds and second again in the 300 hurdles in 43.02. Scott added a third-place finish in the 100 meters, while freshman Livia Allison delivered one of the meet’s most impressive all-around performances, placing second in the long jump, third in the 200 meters and running the anchor leg on the record-setting relay.
Daylani Daniels contributed a third-place finish in the 400 meters, and the Cougars closed the day with a third-place finish in the 4×400 relay.
If Steele Canyon owned the team competition, Helix freshman Ava Parker may have been the meet’s brightest individual star.
Parker swept the sprint double, winning the girls 400 meters in 54.45 seconds before returning to claim the 200-meter title in 23.94. She later anchored Helix’s victorious 4×400 relay team and helped the Scotties finish sixth in the team standings with 94 points.
For a freshman to win both sprint titles at the section championships is a remarkable accomplishment, and Parker heads to Clovis as one of the top young athletes in California.

Gabby Thomas, of Grossmont
Grossmont senior Gabrielle Thomas added another East County championship by capturing the 100-meter hurdles title in 13.83 seconds.
Thomas led a strong Foothiller contingent that also included thrower Miley Christenson, who finished second in the discus and fourth in the shot put.
Christian junior Elliana Patterson produced one of East County’s top distance performances, placing second in the 3,200 meters in 10:20.53 after also finishing fourth in the 1,600.
Santana’s Harper Diaz added a third-place finish in the 800 meters, while Helix’s Kate Weaver placed fifth in the 1,600.
East County athletes continued to score heavily in the field events. Livia Allison’s runner-up finish in the long jump highlighted the group, while Granite Hills’ Asia Victoria placed fifth in the shot put, Steele Canyon’s Makenna Gochenour finished seventh in the shot put, and Santana’s Kai Brown earned a fourth-place finish in the discus.
By the end of the evening, East County athletes had accounted for four girls event championships, multiple relay victories, numerous podium finishes and the meet’s most memorable performance as Steele Canyon celebrated a CIF San Diego Section championship and a place in the record book.
