WOODLAND HILLS — The Grossmont College Griffins picked up a statement road win Saturday night, defeating LA Pierce College 40–19 at Shepherd Stadium to move to 5–2 overall, 1–1 in conference play.

Quarterback Melvin Spicer IV, the SCFA leader in yards per game, accounted for five total touchdowns, three through the air and two on the ground, as Grossmont continued its breakout season.

Grossmont jumped on LA Pierce early, as Spicer capped the drive himself with a 2-yard touchdown run, and kicker Tyler Haley converted the extra point.

Just moments later, Spicer connected with Myles Norman for an 11-yard touchdown pass, giving the Griffins a 14–0 lead.

LA Pierce responded midway through the second quarter with a 10-yard touchdown pass from Adrian Anguiano to Frederick Managan, closing the gap to 14–7.

Grossmont answered with two more scores before halftime: a 40-yard touchdown pass from Spicer to Ayden Billups and a 44-yard field goal by Haley, stretching the lead to 24–7.

The Griffins continued to control the game in the second half. Elijah Realzola caught a 3-yard touchdown pass from Spicer in the third quarter to make it 31–7.

LA Pierce attempted a late rally in the fourth quarter with two scores — an 8-yard run by Mark Wilson and a 6-yard pass from Roman Rough to Malachi Williams — but Grossmont’s offense responded with two more scores, including a 41-yard field goal and a 12-yard touchdown run by Spicer, to seal the 40–19 victory.

Grossmont’s offense racked up 461 total yards, with 253 passing yards and 192 rushing yards.

Spicer threw for three touchdowns on 21 completions in 33 attempts and ran for two scores on seven carries for 67 yards.

Myles Norman added 59 rushing yards and a touchdown, while Darick Dubose Jr. contributed 54 yards on seven carries.

Receivers Billups, Realzola, and Jordan Benton all made significant contributions, combining for 201 yards and two touchdowns.

The Griffins’ defense limited LA Pierce to 333 total yards and recorded two interceptions, including a 43-yard return by Sy Fanua.

Grossmont also recorded 10 tackles for loss and two sacks, controlling the line of scrimmage throughout the contest.

Grossmont now looks to continue its winning ways next week at home against Orange Coast College, riding the momentum of a balanced offense and opportunistic defense.
