SAN DIEGO CIF DIVISION I PLAYOFFS
CHRISTIAN 1, POWAY 0
By Adam Paul
POWAY – Strong pitching was the theme of the day as the pitching duo of senior Ava Barrios and sophomore Alyssa McCurty for the tenth-seeded Christian Patriots combined to three hit the sixth-seeded Poway Titans as they made sure the only run that was scored early on stood in the 1-0 road victory in CIF San Diego Section Division I second round elimination action on Friday afternoon.
Looking to get back to the semi-finals and beyond for the second straight year the Christian Patriots knew it wasn’t going to be easy and would put the pressure on the Titans early on as Keeleyana Carrizosa with two outs would drive in Lily Reyes for a 1-0 lead.
McCurty who drew the starting nod for the Patriots would pick up the win as she tossed five strong innings in which she shutdown the Titans while walking one and striking out one while only allowing two hits. Barrios who would come into the game in relief would continue the strong pitching as she only allowed one hit over two innings in which she walked two and struck out three.
Carrisoza who drove in the only run of the game would go 2-for-3 at the plate.
Poway with the loss is officially eliminated and finishes the season 14-17 overall while Christian moves to 13-14-1 overall and will travel to take on the Otay Ranch Mustangs on Saturday in a third-round elimination game.
