SAN DIEGO CIF DIVISION III PLAYOFFS

LA MESA – The second-seeded Helix Highlanders on Friday afternoon picked up their third win in a row in convincing fashion as they ran away with the CIF San Diego Division III second round contest 11-0 in five innings over the visiting third-seed Mission Vista Timberwolves.
Sophomore Ella Aguayo was a big contributor to the offense as she went 3-for-3 on the day including a solo home run in the bottom of the second inning. She drove in a pair of runs and also scored three times.
Helix as a whole collectively pounded out thirteen hits.
The Highlanders would jump out to an early 6-0 lead with Amara Okafor who also had three hits on the day including driving in 4 RBI of which one those RBI came in the bottom of the first inning. Others contributing in the inning were Clarissa Torres who drove in a pair of runs and Sabrina Ramuno who drove in a run.
They would cap their scoring spree with four runs in the bottom of the third inning with Aguayo driving in a run and Okafor doubling in three runs.
Sophomore Lea Moya earned another playoff victory for Helix as she tossed five innings in which she only allowed two hits while striking out four.
With the win the Helix Highlanders move onto the semi-finals for the first time since 2022 when they lost to Granite Hills 4-2 in an elimination semi-final game.
Prior to that season they not only went to the semi-finals but made to the CIF Division II championship game where they lost 4-0 to Otay ranch in 2021 the season coming out of COVID.
They not only make it to the semi-finals where they will take on the winner of Mission Vista and University City but they also improve to 22-4 overall. The 22 victories in a season is tied for the second most ever behind the 26 victories of the 2021 season when that team finished 26-6.
Helix including this year has won 22 games in 1994, and 2022.
