LA MESA – Freshman Sahara Roope helped the second-seeded Grossmont Foothillers win convincingly on Friday afternoon as she drove in four runs with one swing of the bat in the 10-0 victory over the sixth-seed Montgomery Aztecs in second round action of the CIF San Diego Section Division IV playoffs.

Leading 1-0 in the bottom of the second inning Roope belted a ball deep over the right field fence for a grand slam to put the Foothillers up 5-0.

Grossmont would go onto extend their lead in the bottom of the third inning thanks to Juliana Short who drove in a run, Saraya Roope doubling in a pair of runs, and both Skyler Glover and Madison Busch each driving in a run.

Roope not only helped herself offensively but in the circle picked up the win as she went all five innings in which she walked two and struck out five.

Grossmont who have now won seven games in a row move onto the semi-finals for the first time since they accomplished the feat in both 2016 and 2017. In 2016 the Foothillers would go onto win the CIF Division III championship over University City 5-3 and in 2017 would lose to Del Norte in an elimination semi-final contest.

Grossmont with the win moves onto the semi-finals and will now take on the winner of the Montgomery vs Francis Parker contest in which Montgomery already has beaten Francis Parker by a score of 11-10.

If all goes to plan Grossmont is on a collision course with the top seeded Madison Warhawks who will take on the winner of Central Union and Liberty Charter in a semi-final matchup of the top half of the bracket also on Tuesday.
