LA MESA (10-5-15) — The HELIX HIGHLANDERS picked up two first place votes to edge just a bit closer but still reside in second.

The biggest mover of the week however, is CHRISTIAN. After the Patriots were embarrassed at home on Saturday by La Jolla the Patriots dropped from ninth place to the very last team with a vote (a loss of 51 votes).

GROSSMONT was the beneficiary of the Patriots drop as they move into the top 10 for the first time this season.

Oceanside, St. Augustine and El Camino fill out the top five. La Costa Canyon, Westview, Rancho Bernardo, Cathedral Catholic and the Foothillers fill out the top 10.

It is very clear to the voters that there are about five distinct groups in the county. Looking at the groups, the top two are separated by 45 points. The third and fourth place teams are separated from fifth by 30 points. While the fifth place team has a 32 point gap. Which is about (33 points) the gap between fifth and sixth. However, it is the gap between tenth place Grossmont (45 points) and the defacto 11th place Madison (19 points) that is so surprising. It is a gap of 26 points.
