Hawks take care of business on Senior Night against Hope

SANTEE – On senior night, it was only fitting that seniors made an impact for the result against Hope International.

Seniors Alex Saliba and Francisco Ramirez each tallied a goal as the SDC Men’s soccer team defeated the Royals 2-0 Saturday night.

With the the win, the Hawks improved to 10-6 overall and 5-3 in GSAC play and also clinch a spot in the GSAC Tournament. The Royals fall to an even 8-8 overall and 3-5 in conference.

After a scoreless first half that saw a total of 12 shots total from both teams, the Hawks opened the scoring in the 60th minute as Joseph Fortini served a cross to  Saliba, who buried it past the Royals keeper for the 1-0 lead.

The celebration carried on and got louder just a minute later as SDC struck again. Senior Pedro Henrique‘s corner kick found Ramirez’s head in the 61st minute for a 2-0 advantage.

The Royals didn’t stop fighting with late chances to goal against the SDC defense but the Hawks held serve for the shutout victory.

SDC is back on the field on Thursday to host William Jessup. Kickoff is slated for 2 p.m.
