SANTEE (3-14-16) — There is a new home run queen at the Northern Illinois University and her name is KAYTI GRABLE, who with her first home run of the season set a new record with 25 for her career.
Grable who played her high school ball at Santana High in Santee came into the season tied with JILL JUSTIN-COFFEL who played for NIU from 1986-89 for the record with 24 career home runs.
The home run came in the opening of the Cancer Awareness Tournament back on March 4 against UKMC in a 12-1 victory which saw scoring by the Huskies early and often.
The record breaking homer for Grable came in the bottom of the fourth inning with a runner on first she was able to belt the two-run blast to give the Huskies the 10-1 lead.
For the game, Grable went 1-3 (2 RBI, R). Besides now being the new home run king at Northern Illinois, Grable is also the home run champ at Santana High where she belted 34 homers.
Grable also set the season homerun record for the Huskies last season in 2015 when she belted 15 for the season.
Former Santana star Schisler is Big South Player of Week
Former Santana slugger and current Campbell Camels pitcher/first base AMBER SCHISLER was selected as the Big South Conference Softball Player of the week thanks to her monster efforts over the past week.
