SAN DIEGO (3-22-17) – All across the county, games were canceled as the rain that had been forecasted was anticipated but that didn’t stop the No. 1 Granite Hills Eagles as they traveled inland to Clairemont.

An early run and outstanding pitching helped the Granite Hills Eagles claim the Falcon Fiesta victory over the home team Clairemont Chieftains.

The Eagles scored what would be the lone run of the game in the top of the first thanks to a leadoff single by HALLE KYLER (1-3, R), she would advance to second on the sacrifice by BAILEY WALLACE, CASSIDY SHEW (1-3, RBI) came up and laced a single to left that scored Kyler to make it 1-0.

Kyler also took the circle and in the bottom of the first had an opportunity to tie the game but Kyler was able to get herself out of the inning and end the threat on three straight groundballs back to her.

Granite had a golden opportunity to add more in the top of the fourth with two outs, KAREN CREECH (1-3, 2B) ripped a double, STACI CHAMBERS and BRIELLE TYESLING walked to load the bases but the inning ended on a lineout to center.

Kyler pitched her way to the victory in allowing rarely a runner to get past second as she struck out 4 while only giving up 4 hits and 0 runs in 7 innings.

SANTANA 12, FALLBROOK 0 – A very dominant pitching performance from MADISON MENDEZ (2-3, 2 R, 2 RBI, HR) and great run support fueled the lopsided Jaguar Classic contest way up in the North County.

Fallbrook had an opportunity to strike first as they got a hit and steal second but Mendez shut that down as she fanned the next two batters for the final outs of the first inning.

Both teams matched each other as they headed into the top of the third inning. The Sultans changed that however as LAKAILA AQUININQOC (2-3, R) led off with a single, MACKENZIE BENNETT (3-3, 2 RBI, R, 2B) followed with a double and a couple of batters later with one out, Mendez hit a big fly over the right field fence for the 3-run homerun to give the Sultans a 3-0 lead.

Santana added another run in the fourth when CASSIDY MATTHIE (0-1, 2 R, RBI) was hit by a pitch and she would come into score on an error by Fallbrook to extend the lead to 4-0.

Top of the fifth, Santana added more as Mendez led off being hit by a pitch, KRYSTEN SERVICE singles, RACHEL WILSON (0-2, 2 R) walks to load the bases, DESIREE LYNCH (1-1, R, 3 RBI, 2B) came into run for Mendez, Matthie proceeded to walk which scored Lynch, ASHLEY MADRIGAL (1-2, R, 2 RBI, 2B) smashed a double which scored two runs and Bennett singles to center scoring two more to make it 9-0.

They would add three more runs in the top of the sixth to round out the scoring. The bus ride home wasn’t so long after the victory.

Mendez tossed a 1 hitter in pitching the 6 inning victory, she fanned 6 and walked 0.
