CHULA VISTA – ADRIAN PETTY’s college football career got off to a pretty good start at Hastings College in Nebraska last season.

Petty, the former Christian High great who had 48 touchdowns in his Patriot career, scored two touchdowns in his first college game and was averaging over six carries per game through his first five games with the Broncos.

But now Petty has found a place where he can run in space and it is working out in a big way at Southwestern College.

Petty has returned at least one kick or punt for a touchdown in his first three games with for coach ED CARBERRY.

The Jaguars’ sophomore returned punts of 75 and 55 yards for touchdowns against Glendale two weeks ago and had a 100-yard kickoff return last week in a win over L.A. Pierce.

He also had a 98-yard kick return in the season-opening loss against Palomar. The Jags are 2-1 on the season.

Petty is an explosive runner who rushed for 3,299 yards at Christian, but interestingly, out of his 48 trips to the end zone, only three came via a return.Petty is the only player in Southern California to have two

Petty is the only player in Southern California to have two punt returns for a touchdown this season. He is also the only player with two kick returns for a score so far.

He has racked up 442 yards on 10 returns.

Several other East County stars are making an impact on the Jags so far this season, including former Christian star NICK SEXTON, who has three touchdowns among his 10 receptions this season.

Former Helix Highlander JESSE LEASAU has a 20-yard interception return for a touchdown.

Mount Miguel defensive king CAMERON HANSON is second on the team so far with 12 tackles, while another Matador DURAN MILLER is also playing on the defense.

Former Valhalla Norseman RASHAUN SHARPE is averaging eight yards per carry, gaining 32 yards in his season-debut last week. He also scored a touchdown in the game.
