OCEANSIDE (1-4-18) – Grossmont College is enjoying the temporary residence at MiraCosta College this week.
The Griffins (11-6) have now won back-to-back games at the MiraCosta Tournament.
Thursday afternoon’s latest victim was L.A. Pierce (4-12).
The Griffins were up just 36-30 at the half, which tells you that you should not judge a team by the amount of losses they have.
There is always the strength of schedule that plays a huge part as well.
In the 2nd half both squads kept it close, however, L.A. Pierce won the battle in the 2nd half 39-38.
Luckily for the Griffins, their early scoring and defense prevailed, to hold on and pull out their 2nd straight, 74-69.
Both squads turned the ball over quite a few times, the Griffins unfortunately led in that category turning the ball over 13 times, as their L.A. opponent had 11 turnovers.
Grossmont’s RONALD BLAIN was the leading scorer on the afternoon with 20 total points, and he also had 18 total rebounds, 5 assists, 2 steals and 1 block for a great day on the court for this talented young man.
Grossmont’s second leading scorer on the afternoon was DAVID WHEELER, who had 18 total points, 4 rebounds, and 1 assist.
BRYCE PARSONS, of Grossmont, had 13 total points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists.
The Griffins once again had incredible help off the bench, as KADE KYGAR scored 9 total points on 3-of-3
three-pointers, and 1 steal, as it was definitely a heck of a game from this kid.
Grossmont will play their first league game at San Diego Mesa next Friday the 12th.
