SPRING VALLEY (2-2-2018) – The Mount Miguel Lady Matadors and the Granite Hills Lady Eagles are two teams heading in completely different directions.

Being overmatched as many of the Lady Matadors’ opponents have been, would be an understatement.

However, when playing a talented group like the Lady Matadors, just a simple missed jumper can create a long night for the opponent.

The Lady Eagles do have a few talented athletes, as well, but you have to scout well and prepare for a physical and very mentally challenging Mount Miguel team that feeds off of mistakes.

Granite Hills Lady Eagles head coach CURTIS NORWOOD has been preparing his squad very well.

However, the first quarter of action came too a close with the Lady Matadors up 33-2, and unfortunately that is not a typo.

The Lady Eagles scored a bucket in the first eight minutes, and would be unable to duplicate even the first quarter’s amount of points after a full 4 quarters.

Mount Miguel (22-0, 6-0 Grossmont Hills League) added another 28 points in the second quarter to the Lady Eagles’ 6, leaving the score at intermission an ugly, 61-8.

As the third and fourth quarters were completed, the rout did not continue.

The Lady Matadors took their foot off the gas and scored only another 20, as Granite Hills (6-14, 1-5 GHL) would add 14, for an extremely lopsided win for the host Matadors, 81-22.

There was many more activities also going on celebrating both Senior and alumni night.

There were 20 girls honored for the Mount Miguel Lady Matador alumni.

“I just want everyone to know how much class Granite Hills coach Norwood had by allowing our senior 2016 All-CIF point guard LAYLA SMITH to hit the court for the first time tonight,” said Lady Matadors head coach ROBBIE SANDOVAL. “Her senior year, because of injury, and allow her to score uncontested by the Eagle defense.”
