SANTEE – The Mount Miguel Matadors are 1-0 in league after defeating the Santana Sultans, 48-30 in Santee Thursday evening.
Starting off at heavyweight, the Sultans (0-1 ) got off to a fast start, jumping out to a 9-0 lead.
But the Matadors responded, scoring five falls and one forfeit to take a commanding 36-9 lead.
Senior Cam Wilson had the highlight of the night with a vicious headlock to pin his opponent in :30 seconds in the 152 weight class.
The dual was sealed for the Matadors when junior Quincy Snipes scored a fall at 1:07 in the 170 weight class.
“That was fun,” Santana head coach Scott Ullsperger said after the dual. “We have a lot of young wrestlers but they’re learning.”
The Sultans will spend their weekend competing in the always tough El Cajon Invitational.
The Matadors will travel next weekend to compete in the Canyon Springs Invitational.
