Hawks clinch opening series with Bethesda

SCRIPPS RANCH —- Cynnadie Whatley pouted in a game-high 17 points and all 10 players from San Diego Christian College got on the scoring sheet, lifting the Hawks to a 2-0 advantage in a three-game, season-opening series against Bethesda University of California, 80-42, on Tuesday (Nov. 10) night. The non-conference contest was held at the Alliant Internation University Sports Center.
Watley, a sophomore guard from the Riverside County town of Perris, hit 5-of-11 shots from the floor and contributed six rebounds in another one-sided affair between the ballclubs.
Guard Keren Hogue, a junior transfer out of Imperial Valley College, added 16 points for SDCC (2-0). Meanwhile, forward Jamee Joseph (12 points) and guard Isabel Feller (10) also reached double figures scoring for the Hawks.
For the visiting Flames (0-2), Jazlynne Medrano totaled 16 points, while Vanessa Vargas added 15. However, the remainder of the club shot just 16.7 percent (3-for-18) from the floor.
San Diego Christian dominated in the paint behind 14 rebounds by Joseph, producing a variety of putback points thanks to 15 offensive boards.
The Hawks complete the rare, three-game set with the Flames, traveling to Anaheim for an early 4:15, traffic-beating start on Friday (Nov. 13). SDCC then returns to San Diego County for a two-game series at the University of Saint Katherine, slated for the brand-new Edenpark fieldhouse on the west side of San Marcos in San Elijo Hills. The games are slated for Nov. 19 (7 p.m.) and Dec. 2 (5 p.m.).
