SAN MARCOS (2-17-22) – In the first of three games to start the season against highly rated teams the Santana Sultans, unfortunately, couldn’t get the bats going as they were held to only four hits on the day in their shutout loss.

The Knights would take advantage of three errors committed by the Sultans in the bottom of the third inning which led to a 3-0 lead.

Both Leilani Williams and Caylene Nguyen each drove in a pair of runs for the Knights while Mariah Diaz drove in the other run.

On the other for the Sultans, Kassidy Harper would have a pair of hits including a double while Samantha Sullivan and Madison Jordan each had a hit on the day to round out the offense.

Schedule-wise the Sultans will start the Cougar Classic on Tuesday up at Kit Carson Park in a 7 p.m. matchup when they take on the CIF Open Division runners-up from last season the Rancho Buena Vista Longhorns and on Wed., Feb. 23, also a 7 p.m. game they will face the defending CIF Open Division champions Mater Dei Catholic.

Meanwhile, the Knights will start on Monday at 5 p.m. as they take on the Eastlake Titans and on Tuesday will take on the Carlsbad Lancers.
