Foothills Christian takes Pacific opener

SPRING VALLEY — Foothills Christian pitcher Seth Gilbody fired five innings of 1-hit ball, leading the Knights past Tri-City Christian, 16-2, in Monday’s (Apr. 18) Pacific League opener held at Mount Miguel High.

Gilbody registered nine strikeouts of Eagles batters and issued just one walk to dominate Tri-City Christian.

Foothills Christian (9-12 overall), which had an opening round bye, moved to within a half-game of Escondido Charter (12-3, 2-0) and Maranatha Christian (9-12, 2-0) in the Pacific.

Tri-City Christian (1-13) fell to 0-3. The Eagles will host Foothills Christian on Tuesday to cap the home-and-home series

Hla of the 8 hits by Foothills Christian went for extra bases, including triples from Billy Temple and Dustin “Dusty” Bakers, plus doubles by Colby Johnson and John Popka.

Johnson kled the way in run production, finishing with three RBI, two coming on a fourth-inning double for a 5-0 lead.

The Knights scored three times in the second and fourth for a 6-0 lead, then buried the Eagles with a 9-run rally in the sixth.

Tri-City Christian, which was held to one hits through six frames, finally hit the board in the seventh in three straight singles, then a pair of ground balls to the right side to allow runners from third base to score each time.
