Seals don’t go ‘P.C.’ in whipping P.C.L.C.

From staff and wire reports

SAN DIEGO -Political correctness won’t be found in too many sports, especially when you’re battling for first place.

Case-in-point: the San Diego Seals, which withstood a determined challenge to defeat P.C.L.C. — the Panther City Lacrosse Club of Fort Worth, Texas — in Saturday night’s (Feb. 4) 12-10 decision at Pechanga Arena.

It was the Seals’ third straight victory on home turf, extending their lead in the West Division of National League Lacrosse.

Pre-game indication made may to believe San Diego should easily win by five or six goals, but too many mistakes in the third period left the outcome undecided entering the fourth period.

“That was closer than we wanted but that’s a win,” said Seals general manager and Head Coach Patrick Merrill. “We had a strong first half and I thought we were playing really well. We took our foot off the gas, took some bad penalties and let them get back into the game a little, but a win is a win in this league.”

From the Seals post=game press release:

A valiant first half, the Seals scored nine goals in the first two frames to jump out to an early lead. Panther City inched their way back into the contest in the second half, but ultimately could not complete the comeback. Assistant captain Cam Holding took a page out of Brodie Merrill’s book, scoring a full-field goal to seal the deal in the fourth quarter.

Seals forwards Wesley Berg, Dane Dobbie and Austin Staats all netted hat tricks in the victory. Forward Curtis Dickson led the Seals offense with six points, while goaltender Chris Origlieri made 42 stops on 52 shots.

The San Diego Seals return home on Friday, February 17 to host the Saskatchewan Rush at Pechanga Arena. Reserve your seats today.

On March 4, the Seals are hosting the first ever outdoor NLL game at the brand-new Snapdragon Stadium. Don’t miss this historic event as the Seals take this outside!
