Griffins enjoy ‘Cash’ – ‘Good Knight, now’

FLETCHER HILLS – Powered by a pair of home runs by leadoff batter Ethan Caschetta, Grossmont College went on to sweep a home-and-road series against San Diego City College, moving to within a game in the loss column for second place in the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference baseball standings. Both triumphs came by identical counts of 5-3.

On Thursday (Apr. 6), Caschetta posted solo blasts, first as the Griffins’ initial batter of the game in the first inning, then another long-ball in the seventh.

Caschetta  also provided a double for 10 total bases in a 3-for-3 performance. He also walked once in a perfect outing at the plate on his historic day at Noel Michelsen Field.

Skyler Agnew also hit a home run, a two-run shot down the right field line in the fourth, giving the Griffins a 3-0 advantage.

The power display made a winner of Grossmont starting pitcher Ethan Heider (4-1), who struck out seven Knightss batters.

closer and Bradley Barkley registered his sixth save of the season.

Game Two

In Friday’s (Apr. 7) second game, the Griffins repeated with another 5-3 decision,

San Diego City scored three times in the fifth inning to pull even, but Grossmont College answered with single runs in the sixth- and seven-inning to again drop the Jbights, this time at Balboa Park’s Morley Field.

Griffins second baseman Luke Mansy stroked a pair of doubles in a 3-for-4 outing, also scoring s run, the first good for two runs and a 3-0 advantage.

Designated hitter Brodie Romero also pumped a solo homer to open the scoring in the second.

Caschetta again posted the game-winning RBi with a bases-loaded single in the fifth. An inning later, left fielder uke Denos also labeled a run-scroing double.

Six pitchers combined on a 3-hitter for Grossmont (14-11 overall, 7-6 PCAC).
