Bates pours in 30 once again in Matadors’ rout of RBV

SPRING VALLEY (12-6-15) — SATERA BATES enjoyed her second 30-plus point game in Saturday’s (Dec. 5) Matador Classic contest, helping Mount Miguel to a 72-35 victory over visiting Rancho Buena Vista.

Bates hit 13 field goals, including one trey to go along with one free throw as the Matadors improved to 3-0.

“We were missing three of our top seven players,” said Matadors coach ROBBIE SANDOVAL. “We played OK but we’ve got to get better, and that starts in practice.”

AMBER HARD rolled a double-double of 13 points and 11 rebounds, while CAMERA DOUGLAS scored 13 points, grabbed 9 rebounds, and made 4 blocks.

LAILA SMITH dished 8 assists for the Matadors.

Mount Miguel:  Satera Bates 30 (3 reb, 1 ast, 1 stl), Amber Hard 13 (11 reb, 1 ast), Camara Douglas 13 (9 reb, 1 stl, 4 blk), Laila Smith 7 (3 reb, 8 ast, 2 stl), A’Zhanea Pegram 4 (4 reb), Kiara Morris 3 (1 reb, 1 ast, 1 stl), Zaria Arline 2 (3 reb).

CACTUS SHADOW, AZ 47, GRANITE HILLS 35 – Eagles coach CURTIS NORWOOD watched several of his players take S.A.T. test prior to Saturday’s (Dec. 5) LJCD – Sweet Sixteen Invitational final round.

“For one reason or another we had to start all of our youngsters,” Norwood said.

And Cactus Shadow of Arizona took advantage, taking a 17-0 first quarter lead.

“Once we got our regular team in there we still hurt ourselves with self-inflicted wounds,” Norwood said. “We closed to within 5 points but that was it.”

RAELLEAH MOORE scored 17 points, including 9 of 11 from the free throw line. The Eagles, in fact, were 23 of 29 from the charity stripe.

Granite Hills:  Raelleah Moore 17, Micayela Hernandez 7, Chase Robles 4, Miranda Brown 3, Anyang Agoth 2, Emma Kubari 2.

KEARNY 38, EL CAPITAN 22 – After falling behind 11-2 in the first quarter of Saturday’s (Dec. 5) Matador Classic encounter in Lakeside, the Vaqueros began to fight back before submitting to a lobsided loss.

Kearny led 22-6 at halftime, and both teams scored 16 points after intermission.

El Capitan:  Marie Cook 7, Tyler Fagan 5, Sarah Lohman 4, Mackenzie Kygar 4,  Danielle Puimental 2.

CLASSICAL ACADEMY 2, CHRISTIAN 0 (Christian Forfeits) — Injuries to two of their players have caused the Christian Patriots to forfeit a game to Classical Academy in Saturday’s (Dec. 5) Fast Break – Calvin Christian Tournament, as they were unable to field a team for the contest.

MARISSA GILES and BROOKE OWENS are out of basketball action for the time being.
