Mountain Empire 20, CV-High Tech 2 (6 inn.)
At San Ysidro Athletic Area Park: Mountain Empire junior catcher Ezekiel Lopez equaled the school single-game record with three doubles, powering the RedHawks past the host Bruins.
Lopez batted 3-for-3 with three RBI.
Mountain Empire has captured several league titles this century, but Thursday’s (May 14) decision allowed the RedHawks to complete their first undefeated league title team in a decade.
The Empire went 6-0 to take a league crown in 2016.
The output of 20 runs was the ballclub’s second- best of the season; MEHS tallied 21 against Calipatria in the second game of the season in late March.
The lone win for Chula Vista-High Tech (1-16) came in a leaue game with Ocean View Christian. The Cobars earlier fell to Valhalla for the only Norsemen victory — 11-6 on Mar. 10 — this season.
Liberty Charter 10, CVLCC 7
At Joan MacQueen Middle School, Alpine: Trailing 6-3 in the second inning, Liberty Charters tormed back to down the CVLCC Cobras in the battle to decide second place in the Summit League.
The Lions (11-9 overall) closed with six unanswered runs, including five in the fifth to secure the victory.
The rally incuded an RBI single by Asher Johnson to move to within a run, then John Gray stroked a two-run, go-ahead single up themiddle for the lead.
Gray later stole third base, coming home when the throw sailed down the left-field line.
The early lead for the Cobars (11-5-1) came on a grand slam by Rudy Gutierrez.
Final Standings: Mountain Empire 8-0, Liberty Charter 6-2, CVLCC 5-3, Ocean View Christian 2-6, CV-High Tech 1-7.
Pacific League
Francis W. Parker 3, Foothills Christian 0
At Matt Lachappa Field, Lakeside: Parker pitchers tossed 4-hit ball to blank Foothills Christian.
Parker built a 3-0 lead through two innings, then zeros dominated the scoreboard the rest of the way.
The Knights’ Jonah Nottoli was the only player to solve the Lancers with three hits. The only hit went to “Captain” Jack Morgan.
