Green Team: Hot Highlanders in 90s against Cougars

RANCHO SAN DIEGO (2-10-16) — In Grossmont Hills League action on Tuesday (Feb.9), it was a balanced attack that would lead the Helix Highlanders to a 91-71 victory over the home team Steele Canyon Cougars.

For the first 16 minutes it was a back and forth contest as defense didn’t exist as both teams were evenly matched. It would be Helix taking the slim 40-37 lead into the break.

The second half was completely different starting in the third quarter as the Highlanders turned the tables defensively, holding the Cougars to 16 points while pouring in 29 to take a 69-53 lead heading into the fourth period.

“We felt better as a team in the second half as we were able to figure out how to stop their shooters and we crashed the boards better,” said AMARI GREEN, who was one of six Highlanders to score in double-digits on the night.

The Highlanders wore the Cougars down defensively in the second half limiting them to a total of 33 points.

Offensively, the term balance was the name of the game for the Highlanders as JAYLEN ARNOLD scored 17 points and grabbed 14 boards for the double-double, Green tallied 16 points, MALIK TAMBWE corralled a double-double with 15 points and 11 boards, CARSON BAKER scored 14 points and dished out 5 assists and DYLAN LEE punched in 13 points and JUSTIN FLISHER poured in 12 points.

The Cougars on the offensive end were led by THOMAS FISHBURNE who pounced with 24 points including 9-for-10 from the charity stripe, GAGE SANDERS poured in 17 points while MARCUS WHITE canned 13 points.
