Griffins Cross up East Los Angeles

EL CAJON (2-20-16) — As the line goes in the movie Major League 2 goes, “If we win tomorrow, that is a winning streak.” Well, if the Griffins win on Saturday (Feb. 20) that is exactly what will happen, a winning streak.
Grossmont (3-5) defeated East Los Angeles (2-6) by a rocky 6-3 score on Friday (Feb. 19) at Noel Mickelsen Field in a non-conference game.
TANNER PERRY (Steele Canyon) went 2 for 4 in the contest that was marred by errors. Neither team fielded the ball well as both were charged with four errors.
East Los Angeles left nine runners on base, while the Green and Gold left seven.
In the bottom of the first, MICHAEL DIFFLEY (Granite Hills) started the game out with a walk. ROBERT BOSTEDT (Granite Hills) singled to left field pushing Diffley to second. Perry got his first hit of the day that drove in Diffley to give Grossmont a 1-0 lead.
East Los Angeles tied it up at 1 in the top of the second inning. An inning later, the Huskies scored twice to take a 3-1 lead through three innings.
In the bottom of the fourth, Perry lead off, reaching second on an error by the third baseman. After a pair of outs, CURRAN FACER (El Capitan) singled to left field to score Perry and cut the lead to a 3-2 count.
In the sixth, SETH MORGAN (Donelson Christian Academy) lead off by another error by the Husky third baseman. Perry doubled to right field to put runners on second and third. NOAH STROHL (La Jolla) singled to left centerfield to tie the game up at 3 and have runners on the corners.
After a pitching change, Strohl stole his first base of the season to put runners on second and third. JUSTIN MITCHELL (Granite Hills) launched a sacrifice fly to left centerfield to plate Perry and Strohl moved up to third to give the Griffins a 4-3 lead. Grossmont would immediately tack on another run when Strohl scored when Facer reached second when the centerfielder dropped a fly ball to make it 5-3.
The seventh inning saw the Griffins tack on another run when Morgan scored courtesy of another fielding error by the centerfielder for East Los Angeles.
First pitch for the game against West Los Angeles on Saturday will be at 1:00 p.m. at Noel Mickelsen Field.
