SANTA BARBARA (12-10-16) — For the fourth time in as many tournaments, Grossmont College reached the tourney semifinals.
Last week, the Griffins made it to the finals for the first time before succumbing to San Diego City College in the finals of their own event.
Saturday night, Grossmont will get another shot at some tournament hardware.
Grossmont will take on Bakersfield, which defeated Miramar on Friday, 69-64, in the finals of the Santa Barbara Invitational on Saturday (Dec. 10) at 7 p.m.
Previously, the Griffins reached the semifinals of the College of the Desert Tournament, San Diego City Tournament and the Grossmont College tournament. The first two times, they missed playing in the championship game.
The Griffins toppled COD 78-66 in Friday’s (Dec. 9) Santa Barbara semifinals, but Grossmont, which led 40-34 at halftime, hopes to carry the tournament torch one more level.
DANIEL McCOWN led the Griffins with 14 points including hitting 7 of 8 free throws.
DAVID WHEELER pitched in a dozen points and 6 rebounds. He was also 3 for 7 from long range.
RONALD BLAIN turned in a powerful double-double of 11 points and 11 rebounds, and BRYCE PARSONS punched in 10 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists.
OSCAR LIMON tossed in 8 more points.
