SANTA BARBARA (12-9-16) — Grossmont College rallied from a 36-32 halftime deficit to clip Columbia College of Sonora 65-61 in Thursday’s (Dec. 9) opening round of the Santa Barbara Tournament.
Grossmont (6-5) delivered a balanced attack with DANIEL McCOWN setting the pace with 14 points, including hitting 4 three-pointers. McCown also gathered 2 rebounds and dished 2 assists in the victory over the Claim Jumpers.
CORWIN FEERICK muscled in 10 more points with 4 rebounds and one blocked shot, while OSCAR LIMON tossed in 9 points, garnered 7 rebounds and dealt 6 assists.
Grossmont’s balanced scoring continued as RONALD BLAIN scored 8 points and hauled down 6 rebounds.
Not to be overlooked was BRYCE PARSONS, who pitched in 7 points, handed out 3 assists and grabbed 3 rebounds.
JONNY SCHIRER padded the count with 7 points.
Griffins’ assistant coach JOHN CLARK said “There’s no negativity in our locker room. Everybody is on the same page, we’re all having fun.”
JOSH MORAN didn’t score but grabbed 6 rebounds.
The Griffins will next play College of the Desert in the tournament semifinals Friday night (Dec. 9) at 7 p.m.
