EL CAJON (1-6-17) — NASHOM CARTER turned in a double-double of 26 points and 10 rebounds to help direct the Christian High Patriots to a 55-46 victory over Central Union on Thursday (Jan. 5) in the Wolf Pack Shootout.

Carter nailed 4 three-pointers while dropping in 6 of 8 free throws, dishing 2 assists and making 3 steals to propel the Patriots.

DANIEL WELCH took a turn himself with 12 points, 6 rebounds, 4 blocks, 2 steals and 2 for 3 free throw shooting to outscore Central across the board.

“We’re so young that sometimes we overtake ourselves,” said Christian coach BRAD BRISTOL. “It comes down to experience. We’re still making mistakes but hopefully that will end down the stretch.”

PATRICK ROBERTS chipped in with 10 points and grabbed 3 rebounds.

“Welch was all over the court,” said Bristol.

GRANITE HILLS 62, HILLTOP 40 – The Eagles of Granite Hills made short work of Hilltop in a Wolf Pack Shootout victory on Thursday (Jan. 5).

Post man RYAN KELLY helped the Eagles jump out to a 26-6 first quarter lead, finishing with 18 points and 6 rebounds as Granite Hills toppled Hilltop.

CAMERON SPITZER picked up the slack with 14 points including nailing 3 triples, grabbing 3 rebounds, 3 assists and making 3 steals and a block.

JORDEN ROGERS chipped in with 11 points and 4 rebounds and 4 assists, while DAVID COFFEY tipped his cup with 5 points as did CODY COX.

“We jumped out early,” said Granite Hills coach RANDY ANDERSON. “I was really happy with our intensity today. We had a lot of guys who played today.”

HELIX 79, PATRICK HENRY 69 – MILES NORRIS powered his way to 24 points including 6 for 8 from the free throw line as the Highlanders held off Patrick Henry in a non-league contest Thursday (Jan. 5) in the Helix gym in front of a full house.

“When Norris got in foul trouble, they were down by 10 in the first half,” said Helix assistant coach KATHY GUNION. “When Miles was sitting we didn’t catch up until later in the game.”

DYLAN LEE pitched in 14 points, JAYLEN HINSON also contributed 14 markers.

JAYLEN ARNOLD scored 11 points, while AMARI GREEN added 10.

Helix:  Miles Norris 24, Dylan Lee 14, Jaylen Hinson 14, Jaylen Arnold 11, Amari Green 10, Carson Baker 6.

 

SANTANA 53, CALVIN CHRISTIAN 45 – BRANDON SIMMONS poured in 18 points for Santana and grabbed 8 rebounds as the Sultans mowed down Calvin Christian in Thursday’s (Jan. 5) Wolf Pack Shootout.

NICK BERHALTER tossed in 14 points and grabbed 6 rebounds for the Sultans, while ANDREW HITCHCOCK added 9 points and dished 6 assists, and TC SIMMONS pitched in 8 points, grabbed 6 rebounds, made 3 assists and 5 steals.

Santana:  Brandon Simmons 18 (8 reb, 2 stl), Nick Berhalter 14 (6 reb, 1 ast, 2 stl), Andrew Hitchcock 9 (2 reb, 6 ast, 2 stl), TC Simmons 8 (6 reb, 3 ast, 5 stl), Ben Hart 3 (1 stl), Cole Kinkade 1 (5 reb), John Bobof (1 reb, 1 ast).
