EL CAJON (4-12-17) — After being buried in a slump for the majority of the season, the Grossmont Foothillers came to life and clobbered the Agoura Chargers 7-2 in the second round of the Lions Tournament Classic Division on Tuesday (Apr. 11) .

The Foothillers (5-9) hammered out 10 hits including 3 by JACKSON HULETT and 2 each by MAX FORD and JAYDEN LOMBARDO.

Ford was a deadly leadoff man for the Foothillers as he reached base all four times at bat. He singled, doubled, walked twice and scored a run in the 6th inning. He also stole a base.

GIOVANI GIGANTI chipped in with a single and a stolen base to aid Grossmont’s catcher, Lombardo.

Hulett was 3-for-4 with a double, 2 singles and scored a run.

G1: SANTANA 10, SUNNYSIDE 0 (5 inn.) – Teeing off against the No. 7 team in the Central Valley, the Sultans were ready to make their own statement.

They did so by clobbering the Sunnyside Wildcats (11-6) in five innings of the Fresno Easter Classic on Tuesday (Apr. 11) in the first of two games.

JERRY ALESI scattered 3 hits, struck out 4 and walked one in a game halted after five innings.

AIDAN RASMUSSON, the Sultans’ shortstop, was 4-for-4 with one RBI and 2 stolen bases.

TC SIMMONS was 2-for-3 with 2 runs scored, 2 doubles and 2 stolen bases.

G2: SANTANA 8, COSUMNES OAKS 2 – In the nightcap against Cosumnes Oaks the Sultans claimed an 8-2 victory.

The Sultans put this game away in the 1st inning with five runs.

Santana’s offense shared the load. NOAH NUNEZ was 1-for-4 with a 2 RBI double and  ANDERS TOLHURST was 2-for-2

TRISTEN SALINAS was 2-for-4 with one run scored.

MOUNT MIGUEL 8, NORTH HOLLYWOOD 0 – A trip south for the visitors of tinseltown didn’t do much to impress the Mount Miguel Matadors in Tuesday’s (Apr. 11) second round of the Lions Tournament Division 2A ballgame.

Fact is, the Huskies (5-15) failed to score against the Matadors, who came out of the chute on the strong pitching of RUBEN PRECIADO, who struck out 4 and walked only one.

CHRIS CARTWRIGHT was 3-for-3 with a run scored and Preciado was 1-for-4 with 2 runs scored.

The Matadors took the early lead with 2 runs in the 1st inning on a base hit by Conwright, who collected the first of his three hits in the opening frame. ANDREW MONTIJO was hit by a pitch and both scored on a double by CONNOR WHITE.

In the 3rd inning, ANGELO ZERTUCHE singled, then White walked and Preciado doubled in two runs.

The Matadors picked up another run in the 4th inning on a base hit by White.

VISTA 8, CHRISTIAN 1 – The Christian High Patriots ran out of firepower against the Vista Panthers and never recovered in a Lions Tournament Premier Division contest as the Panthers pulled off an upset.

Christian (13-3) was clobbered by the host Panthers (10-5).

BRADLEY JEREMIAH slugged his third home run, a solo shot, in the 3rd inning but it was much too late to make a difference.

Five Patriots paraded to the mound, including starter Jeremiah.

ZACH HOGUEISSON collected 2 hits.

CALABASAS 10, VALHALLA 4 – The Valhalla Norsemen dropped their 6A Division game of the 67th Annual Lions Tournament to Calabasas of the Southern Section 10-4 Tuesday (Apr 11) at Eric Turgeon Field.

The Coyotes scored three in the 1st and five in the 2nd, aided by six Norsemen errors, to gain a commanding lead they would never relinquish.

Valhalla moved to within a run in their half of the 1st on a LEWIS DIRKES single, stolen base and an error in center field off the bat of RILEY O’SULLIVAN, who scored Dirkes. O’Sullivan would score on a double steal attempt. That would be as close as the Norsemen would get.

Valhalla mounted a rally in the 4th as MAX HAGEMAN led off with a double. COLE HOWARD would reach on an E4 that scored Hageman. Howard stole second and scored on a single by JONAH ST CLAIR. However, the rally would end there.

Calabasas plated two more runs in the 6th for the final score.
