SAN DIEGO – The Christian High girls basketball team defeated Calipatria, 59-39, in a rematch for the Maranatha Christian Eagle Classic title Friday night.
The Patriots goal was to make sure all of the players were able to play solid minutes and get better individually and as a team.
They worked hard and arrived together.
Freshman guard KRISTEN WILLIAMS led Christian on the night with 19 points. She poured it on with eight points in the third quarter.
Sophomore guard RAELYN MUECA added 10 points for the Pats.
Christian got great defensive efforts from GRACE ANNE JEREMIAH and ARDEN LEEMAN.
Leeman also had two of the Patriots six three-pointers in a 25-point opening quarter and a 15-point lead.
Christian sophomore forward SIMONE JAMES led Christian on the boards with eight rebounds, while sophomore teammate HANNAH RICHARDSON added seven caroms and a team-high four assists and four blocks.
The Lady Pats have come a long way quickly, but they will run up on two powerhouse Open Division contenders when they will host Mater Dei on Tuesday at Christian at 6 p.m. and travel on Thursday to Mission Hills.
