2021-22 SAN DIEGO HAWKS WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

ECS staff report

SAN DIMAS —- No one expected the San Diego Christian College women’s basketball team to challenge for the Golden State Athletic Conference championship. However, the Hawks have proven they will not be members of the cellar-dwellers either.

On Saturday (Dec. 19), the Hawks led the entire second half in dropping host Life Pacific University, 68-57, on Mehi Court.

The host Warriors made one late run, going 7-0 to open the fourth period to briefly tie the contest. However, SDCC closed on a 14-3 run to win by its largest margin of the season. Not by coincidence, the Hawks also held a 12-rebound advantage on the boards, including a game-best 10 by the Hawks’ Maddison Zugna.

The Hawks broke open the game after being tied at 34-all at the intermission.

Lide Pacific is now 0-5 in GSAC play.

SDCC (5-9 overall, 2-4 GSAC) then headed into the Christmas break with an exhibition setback at Point Loma Nazarene.

Sophomore guard Isabel Feller fueled the Hawks with 20 points in the victory.

The Hawks played their exhibition game against Point Loma Nazarene at Golden Gym on Dec. 20, falling 90-39.

Former Foothills Christian star Ellie Turk played 12 minutes, scoring three points for PLNU. The sophomore is averaging 7.5 points per game this season.

Ellie’s sister, Izzy Turk, a graduate student playing in her fifth season, scored 12 points for the Sea Lions. She also had 11 rebounds.

Feller the Hawks in the exhibition with 15 points.

San Diego Christian returns to action with a Thursday afternoon businessperson’s special on Dec. 30, hosting the University of Antelope Valley at 3 p.m. at Salvation Army Center gym in El Cajon.
