Local ballclubs gain Lions title berths

SAN DIEGO  — Santana, Granite Hills and Helix high schools all survived first-place tie-breakers in their respective pools to advance to Thursday’s (Apr. 14) championship round of the 71st annual Lions Tournament.

The Grossmont Hills League leading Eagles will host the championship of their flight, of the Open Division with an early start of noon. The opponent will be GHL rival Helix.

In the other half in Open play, Santana will host El Camino Real at 2 p.m.

A complete list of pairings are expected to be posted  just after 9 a.m., Check with the Lions Tournament website for updates pairings, game sites and starting times,, as travel schedules for out-of-towns teams may forced some changes.

Among the lower division:
AAA Flight:Alpha Charter at El Capitan, noon; Mission Vista vs West Hills, 2 p.m.

Classic Division: Point Loma at Patrick Henry, 4 p.m.; Scripps Ranch at Steele Canyon, 4 p.m.

Premier Division: Ramona at San Pasqual , 3 p.m.

The looking-for-respect Cougars advanced by downing Palisades, 6-1, gaining a berth at Point Loma for a 4 p.m. start against Scripps Ranch.

AAAA Consolation: Imperial at Monte Vista, 4 p.m.’ Valhalla at Mt. Carmel, 4 op.m.

AAA Consolation: Nevada Union at Mount Miguel , 4 p.m.; Foothills Christian at Mission Bay, 4 p.m.

AA Consolation: no locals entries.

A Consolation: Castle Park at El Cajon Valley, 4 p.m.
